4 week ~ Intro to Ceramics

Intro To Ceramics is a 4-week course designed for beginners and curious creatives looking to explore clay & develop their skills in an inspiring and intimate studio environment at our pottery barn.

over 4 weekly sessions, you’ll dive into the world of pottery and learn foundational skills in both hand-building and wheel throwing techniques. by the end of the session you’ll have created your own one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces!

if you’ve been joining our workshops each month, this is your opportunity to implement what you’ve learned, practice your skills, create functional ware for your daily rituals

*limited to a small class size only 6 spots * 

Dates:

Tuesday evenings 6:00pm-9:00pm March dates: 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24

Thursday mornings 10am-1:00pm March dates: 3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26

Week 1: intro to clay basics: wheel-throwing and pinch pots

Week 2: coiling, slab building, and practice throwing

Week 3: trimming and attaching - final day for wet clay day

Week 4: learn the wonders of glazing

all projects will be ready for pick up one week after the last class

in kendall near MDC campus, contact for address located on a private residence

includes:

  • hands-on instruction and demos by Erica each week

  • clay to make your own small collection of pieces approx 6-9 pieces

  • use of studio equipment, tools, hand-building work tables & pottery wheels

  • bisque + glaze firings according to studio firing schedule

  • shelf space for storing work

  • access to studio stoneware glaze collection 

*Optional for more practice time you can come in on an Open Studio day Monday’s or Wednesday’s between 5-9pm. Drop in fee discounted to $25 for 4 week class attendees. Extra clay can be purchased if desired.

important to note:

this is ideal for those who have attended at least one ceramics workshop with Erica

this course is intentionally limited to just 6 students in an intimate setting allowing for personalized hands-on guidance from Erica.

3 pottery wheels are available - students will rotate/split time between hand-building and wheel throwing during each session so that each participant may have a turn. if the wheel is open after you may use it longer.

Maracuyá Studio is a safe space for play, expression, and connection for everyone. all students agree to our policies and safety guidelines. we ask that each member be respectful towards other members and help with the cleanliness of the studio. please note, Maracuyá Studio is an open air studio barn, located in the backyard of a private residence.

due to the nature of ceramics, be aware there is always a risk of something happening to the pieces during the firing process. as a small business, we cannot provide a full refund for any glaze defects, breakages, or cracking of the pieces. due to the schedule of kiln firings, there may be delays with the finishing of student pieces. students are responsible for picking up their pieces once they are ready. Maracuyá Studio is not responsible for any work left longer than 30 days.

cancellation policy: can be canceled at any time with no charge. must contact me within 72 hours for a full refund before start of session.
